When putting together this album, I wanted to highlight the strong tradition of Gypsy Jazz that is alive and active on Vancouver Island and the surrounding Gulf Islands, hence our band name: The Islanders Hot Club (Le Hot Club des Insulaires).
I also wanted to create a project that would focus jointly on the French songs that have now become staples of the gypsy jazz répertoire; as well as feature original compositions and arrangements that would fit within the idiom.
I had a great time selecting, arranging, and composing the music for this recording. Included here are modern takes on old standards and classic twists on modern favourites!

En montant cet album, j'ai voulu souligner la forte tradition de Jazz Manouche qui est vivante et active sur l'île de Vancouver et les îles du Golfe environnantes, donc le nom de notre groupe : Le Hot Club des Insulaires (The Islanders Hot Club).
Je voulais également créer un projet qui se concentrerait conjointement sur les chansons françaises qui sont maintenant devenues des standards du répertoire de jazz manouche, tout en présentant des compositions et des arrangements originaux qui s'inscriraient dans cet idiome.
J'ai eu beaucoup de plaisir à sélectionner, arranger et composer la musique pour cet enregistrement. Vous y trouverez des versions modernes de vieux standards et de compositions originales inspirées par les morceaux classiques!
